'Internationalisation' has become a widely used concept also in educational discourse. For over a decade, Jurgen Schriewer has been involved in research addressing the 'internationalisation of educational knowledge', thus taking into account the increasing influence of supra-national interrelationships and developments on the semantic construction of culture and education. The contributors to this volume have been inspired by this research project and provide further analyses within this thematic complex. From theoretical, historical and present-day perspectives, the paths and logics of internationalisation and internationality within past and present educational settings are illuminated, at the same time acknowledging the enduring significance of national contexts.
