For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life--until the unthinkable happens.

Perfect for fans of Barbara Kingsolver and Karen Russell, Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

  1. Actually threw it away
    Agnes, 13 juli 2022

I tried and I tried to read it but I just didn't like it all. Maybe the hype around this book was too much for me.

  2. Otroligt bra!
    Bookworm, 23 juli 2020

Kunde inte sluta läsa och blev besviken när den tog slut - en otrolig berättelse om hur en kvinnas liv utvecklas skriven på ett sätt som man inte alls förväntar sig.

  3. Starts off well, then gets silly
    Smulan, 15 april 2020

This book starts off well and I thought it would be one of those slow, lyrical stories about the American South, and people rising above poverty and beating the odds. Then it just got annoying. Silly characters, silly plotting, an absurd courtroom drama and an ending that was entirely predictable for anyone who'd been paying the slightest bit of attention. One of these books where you don't understand the thought process that led to it being published and marketed at all.
