For both aspiring and experienced education leaders in school budgeting, finance, and resource management courses, Money and Schools explains and demonstrates the relationship between money and equality of educational opportunity. Grounded in research and best practices, this book provides a broad overview of school finance, budgeting, and resource allocation, as well as a detailed examination of day-to-day funding operations. This accessible and engaging book offers strong connections to real-world experiences and detailed information on pre-K-12 funding history, concepts, and current operations. New to this edition: * Cutting edge research on the relationship of money and student learning outcomes, alterations to state aid distribution formulas, new federal education initiatives, and a changing landscape in school finance litigation. * New concepts that have gained traction since the last edition of the book, including school choice and privatization, Common Core State Standards, value-added teacher evaluation, and growth of online options at the K-12 level. * Updated end-of-chapter activities and additional resources that are aligned with the key concepts and content of each chapter. * Online instructor resources

"Over the years, many professors have published books that have sought to encapsulate the several aspects of school management responsibilities, but few, if any, have been as successful in this pursuit as professors Thompson, Crampton, and Wood in this fine textbook, Money and Schools. This book explains complex, specialized tasks of school business managers and budget officers in a highly readable fashion that is clear to even the most junior official. I highly recommend this book for use in graduate study in educational administration programs." - Kern Alexander, Excellence Professor, Department of Educational and Organizational Leadership, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign "Money and Schools continues to be one of the most important state-of-the-art texts in school finance. This comprehensive, relevant, and practical book is appropriate for K-12 school leaders, graduate students and researchers, and is written by preeminent scholarly leaders in the field of school finance. A truly valuable contribution!" - Oscar Jimenez-Castellanos, Associate Professor at Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, Arizona State University "A new edition, this includes cutting edge research; new concepts and updated and enhanced web resources and recommended reading lists. [...] Those teaching and managing school finances will find this book a useful fount of knowledge to pass on as well as being invaluable in helping them to make the best of what may be increasingly reduced and unforecastable resources." - Parents in Touch, UK
