  • The Unwelcome Stranger

    Drew Edwards, Taylor Tomu

The Unwelcome Stranger: COVID-19. We hope this title can be a helpful narrative for families as they navigate uncertainty, help identify where to get accurate information and serve as a learning resource for children at school.

Övrig information

Taylor Tomu is a doctoral student at The Ohio State University who is focused on medical anthropology. She is interested in questions that uncover African American's experiences with the health care system, as well as the development and implementation of community-based programs to assist underserved populations. Her doctoral research studies the effects structural racism has on African American Women's experiences with diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of COVID-19. This pandemic continues to disproportionally affect black people due to structural racism and inequities that have persisted for decades. Such data are critical for developing effective public health messaging aimed at reducing health inequities. Drew Edwards is the Co-Founder and CEO of Pangea Educational Development. Drew has spent his career working with children in post-conflict, emergency, and crisis settings. He has written for UNESCO, spoken on stage at SXSWedu, and on NPR. He was a Forbes 30 under 30 finalist and a WISE Learner's Voice Fellow on Refugee Education at the Qatar Foundation. He earned his Master's in International Education Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education where he studied early childhood literacy, inclusion, and belonging. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from DePaul University, where he was an Irwin W. Steans Community Service Scholar and Vincentian Mission Fellow. He holds a Certificate in Child Protection from the Harvard FXB Center for Health & Human Rights.
